BIENNALE SHIMBER: LIMITED EDITION
Biennale Shimber is a sculptural solid‑oak stool and side table which explores a new organic and highly unique coating material Shimber, a bio-based surface responding subtly to light and movement.
Originally designed for the Finnish Pavilion at the Venice Architecture Biennale, the piece draws from the familiar wooden block found in many Nordic cottages and workshops. Each Biennale is individually crafted in Fiskars, allowing the natural character of the wood – cracks, knots and variations – to remain visible.
In the limited Shimber edition, two of the surfaces are finished with Shimber, a bio‑based structural colour developed in Helsinki. Instead of pigment, the colour is formed by microscopic structures that interact with light, creating a subtle, shifting iridescence. The edition is available in two expressions: Shimber coating on natural oak and Shimber coating on black‑stained oak, each highlighting the material’s luminous qualities in a distinct way. The result is a UNIQUE dialogue between grounded Nordic woodcraft and contemporary material innovation.

As the name suggests, the Arte products were developed for special, unique projects, such as an architectural biennale, a culture sauna or an art gallery, to name a few. The collection also includes Nikari’s oldest product still in production, the Alvar tray by Alvar Aalto from the 1960’s.
