Give Your Nikari Furniture a New Life
Did you know that we also sell pre-owned Nikari furniture? And that we repair and maintain older pieces according to your needs?
Nikari furniture is known for its certified Nordic timber, serene designs and uncompromising craftsmanship. It is also known for its individuality.
Every piece of Nikari furniture is unique, because every tree is unique – and our cabinetmakers do everything they can to bring out the natural beauty of the material, the wood, in the best possible way.
No two pieces of Nikari furniture are ever exactly alike. The grain runs through every tree in its own unique way, telling a story of where the tree grew – of the light, moisture and soil it experienced. All of this is reflected in the finished piece of furniture.
Every one of our pieces carries an entire story with it, and every person who uses or owns a piece adds something of their own to that story. This is why pre-owned Nikari furniture is so highly sought after.
We are not surprised that many people want a Nikari piece that has already developed a beautiful patina. They feel that the marks left by life bring character and soul into the home. Pre-owned Nikari furniture is also available through the online marketplace Franckly.
Nikari Offers Restoration and Maintenance Services
Nikari furniture only gets better with age. In our view, the small dents and scratches that appear on the surface of the wood through use simply add to the character of each piece.
“High-quality, durable materials and uncompromising design are timeless, and their uniqueness only becomes more pronounced over the years,” says Jenni Mikkonen from Nikari’s domestic sales team.
Proper care extends the life of Nikari furniture and ensures that it develops a beautiful patina in the best possible way. Oil-waxed products, for example, benefit from regular maintenance, which we can carry out on behalf of our customers. That is why Nikari’s services also include restoration and maintenance.
“We do everything we can to preserve and repair the old,” says Mikkonen. “It is always worth asking whether something can be repaired or maintained before considering buying something new.”
In most cases, it can.
Our YouTube channel also features various restoration and maintenance videos created for consumers. They are well worth making use of when you want to care for your much-loved Nikari furniture yourself.

Kiasma and Nikari’s Long-Lasting Furniture
When properly cared for, Nikari furniture is practically made to last forever. Solid wood stands the test of time and use.
A great example of this longevity is the furniture at Kiasma, the Museum of Contemporary Art in Helsinki, which has served museum visitors in demanding daily use for decades. At the time, the Kiasma project was Nikari’s first major project after moving from Ostrobothnia to Fiskars.
Kiasma’s architect, Steven Holl, saw the KVT1 chair designed by Kari Virtanen and wanted similar chairs for the new museum, which was about to open. Over the years, Virtanen designed additional pieces to complement the chairs, and today the Seminar collection has grown into a complete furniture series.
During Kiasma’s renovation in 2020–2022, the furniture underwent more extensive restoration. Since then, Nikari’s professionals have continued to carry out regular smaller maintenance and restoration work to ensure that the furniture remains beautiful in use for generations to come.
For example, the traditional wooden joints of some KVT1 chairs have been opened and reassembled, while the surfaces have been sanded and refinished.
“The patina of time and the life the furniture has lived were still allowed to remain visible,” says Mikkonen.
In other words: everything that is beautiful, lived-in and full of soul.
