Open Doors

The days have grown longer. Some might say it’s the best time of the year. Summer pampers us, the northern dwellers, with its light and warmth, while creating memories that we’ll cherish once it’s winter again. It is the growing season: the roots of the young trees dig deeper into the soil while the branches stretch towards the sky. We might feel like we’re growing too.

Summer has also come to Fiskars. Fiskars is a hundreds year old village, situated in the middle of ancient trees. It was built around Fiskars iron works in the 17th century. Today, the village of Fiskars is a vibrant center of creativity, with numerous artists, artisans and designers practicing their profession, inspired both by this collective synergy and the unique nature that surrounds us.

In 1993, Kari Virtanen, the founder of Nikari, also settled in Fiskars. Nikari’s workshop, office and showroom are still located here. We warmly welcome you to a joint exhibition of Nikari and Woodnotes creations, throughout the summer — the doors are open every Friday, from 10 am to 6 pm, until the 12th of August.

During your visit, we also recommend visiting the Fiskars Village Art & Design Biennale, Karin Widnäs’s KWUM ceramics museum and, above all, the exceptional woodlands surrounding the village, which give the area its unique character.

Bonus question: can you find the oldest oak tree in the village?
